so, what’s up with the new name?

I’m so glad you asked.

“Grow through what you go through.”

You know when you hear something–a quote, a speech, a song, or even a book/movie–and it just resonates in exactly the right way? It perfectly encapsulates all the feelings and experiences you’ve had trouble putting into words. Maybe, if it’s a really good one, it could even have the power to push you one little step forward in your healing journey.

“Grow through what you go through.”

I found this quote back when I was in college. I was going through probably the toughest time I had faced in my first 19 years of life. My parents were getting divorced, I was going through my first-ever breakup, I was battling with depression for the first time, and I had some serious anxiety–all at the same time. The perfect storm, it seems, to finally make me book a therapy session.

“Grow through what you go through.”

Therapy has helped me realize that I don’t just want to “get through” the hard times, simply surviving them. Remaining exactly the same Jessica that led me to that point was not an option for me. I wanted to learn, evolve, change, grow. I wanted to take every experience that broke me down and use it to become stronger and more resilient in my future.

“Grow through what you go through.”

This quote became the mantra. Anytime I felt like life was throwing everything it possibly could at me, I knew the rain would eventually pass. I wouldn’t just survive the storm, I would grow as a result of it.

“Grow through what you go through.”

I am the person I am today because of the things I’ve been through; because instead of letting these things hold me back, I chose to grow. Choosing to grow, however, is an active process. It’s never-ending. Each and every day, growing is a choice I make. New challenges surface–heck, even old ones resurface sometimes–but I know one thing will always remain.

I will continue growing through.
